Canton

A dense and vibrant suburb a short distance from downtown Atlanta.

Welcome to Canton

Perched in the center of Cherokee County, Canton rises gently in the suburbs of Atlanta. Shadowed by the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Etowah River cuts through the center of Canton, placing it in a valley surrounded by charming foothills. Residents enjoy a short commute to downtown Atlanta and lush, natural surroundings dotted by trees and fields.

Incorporated in 1832, Canton was originally named after the Chinese city of Canton (now Guangzhou) in hopes of replicating Guangzhou’s success in the silk industry. While that didn’t come to pass, Canton’s location as a stop on the Marietta and North Georgia Railway in the late 1800s helped the city establish itself. A top cotton producer, local mills, and industrial buildings throughout the 1900s created a boom.

Now, more than 30,000 people call Canton home. Replete with alluring architecture and amiable neighborhoods, Canton residents are enchanted by the engaged community atmosphere. Homes throughout the city range in architectural styles from Prairie to Postmodern, Colonial Revival, Farmhouse, and more. A close drive to downtown Atlanta, Canton enjoys a premier location, shaded, tree-lined streets, and a friendly, inviting community.
